Prime Day frenzy as Brits drive surge in eCommerce app installs and sessions

Amazon Prime Day earlier this month saw consumers globally take advantage of unbelievable deals on their favourite products. The event not only triggers a surge in Amazon sales but also provides a significant opportunity for other eCommerce businesses to grow.

Analytics and attribution platform Adjust analysed the performance of eCommerce apps during Amazon Prime Day 2024 to unearth valuable insights for app marketers into user behaviour.

The analysis revealed that the eCommerce industry experienced a significant global boost during the two-day shopping spree, surpassing last year’s performance. The data shows that installs of shopping-specific apps increased by 6% compared to Amazon’s July Prime Day in 2023.

Not only was there a global increase in shopping installs, but there was also a 14% increase in sessions spent on shopping-specific apps, highlighting the growth opportunities that Amazon Prime Day creates for app marketers.

Additionally, Brits clearly had shopping on their minds this year. Shopping app sessions in the UK increased by 97% compared to Amazon’s July Prime Day 2023, whereas the US only saw shopping app sessions increase by 6% compared to last year. Specifically, Brits were keeping an eagle eye on bargains, as shown by the 15% increase in sessions spent on deal discovery apps compared to the H1 2024 average.

Brits weren’t the only users on the lookout for eShopping bargains this year. Brazil saw installs of eCommerce apps increase by 15% compared to Amazon’s July Prime Day in 2023. In addition to this increase, eCommerce app sessions in Brazil increased by 22%.

Like the Brits, users in Brazil were also keeping a close eye on the best deals this year. Adjust’s data showed that in Brazil there was a 20% increase in deal discovery installs compared to the H1 2024 average, and sessions spent on these apps were up by 6%.
