What was the most downloaded travel app in 2023?

Sector overview
The travel industry, in all of its forms, was shaken up by the growth of mobile and the freedom to segment a holiday into several bookings. Apps such as Booking, Expedia and Airbnb provided new ways for tourists to book and experience their holidays.
Before smartphones, many still relied on travel agencies and other middle operators to book hotels, flights and activities. Nowadays, it is more likely that a customer will book these things separately, usually identifying the lowest price for each through price comparison apps.
The travel app industry was one of the hardest hit by the pandemic, with a 70 percent reduction in travel in North America and West Europe. The turnaround from this dive has been long coming for some operators, and others have struggled to reach the same successes they had pre-pandemic.
Alongside this, operators such as Airbnb have been hit by partial or full bans in cities, due to claims it is reducing the amount of available rental properties and increasing prices.
Even with the additional pressure, the travel industry has bounced back from the pandemic and the main apps – Airbnb, Booking and Expedia – have all reported higher revenues post-pandemic than pre.
